mihi mihi

Last week we had our mihimihi for our new Principal, Mr Chalmers.
We had been practicing so hard for
the last few weeks and all our hard work paid off because it was the best it ever could have been. We sang Mapua e, Ko toku kura tenei and It Couldn't Be Done. Jade, Willow and Bailey called the visitors into our school grounds and the boys called the chant. Keiran was the first speaker followed by one of hte visitors. Each time someone spoke they were supported by their people singing a waitata (song). After the speeches there was the hongi. Mr Chalmers spoke to us after that ad said he was looking forward to coming to our school but he was also sad to be leaving Tua Marina.
Mr Hepburn said a prayer before we all went to share some kai (food) with our visitors. We had a good time playing with the students from Tua Marina.
Mr Chalmers will be here with us at the beginning of Term 3.

For our Science topic, Changes, we have been learning about viscosity. We have learned that high viscosity is when a liquid does not pour very fast because it is thick. Low viscosity is like our fizzy drinks and water, they pour easily.
For Oobleck it can be both high and low viscosity. It was high when you hit it hard or squeezed it. It returned to a low viscosity when you left it or stirred it slowly.
Playing around with Oobleck was a fun way to find out about high and low viscosity.

Maths

Maths in Room 6 people might say is boring but the truth is it is quite challenging and kind of fun at the same time. So far we are learning about measurement. We are learning how to calculate the volume of objects and so far it has been highly challenging, mind blowing and it is like a puzzle trying to put all the pieces together.
Recently we started a maths interchange. Some Room 5 students come to Room 6 and some of Room 6 go to Room 5 . We do have been learning how to play a new game called Quick thinking multiplication and division. It's where somebody rolls the dice and he or she calls out the number that was thrown and then the rest of the class has to place that number into a column on the Quick Thinking sheet.
