Starting the term right

WOW what a way to start the term by going to the movies to see Prince Caspian.
It was a very good movie full of action and some scary scenes the movie was awesome. The film was shot in the Coromandel, Canterbury, the West Coast forests and Queenstown. When they first appeared in Narnia they appeared in what was really Cathedral Cove on the Coromandel Peninsula. We read that it is hard to find old forests to film in in Europe but the West Coast of the South Island has lots of really old forests that haven't been felled or changed in some way. The scenes in the forest were magical.

Mrs Hosie asked us to look out for examples of humour and irony, times that children showed courage or made wise decisions and techniques the film maker used to to convince us that some characters were bad and others were heroes. We discussed it in groups and came up with lots of interesting things. The scene where the soldiers threw the dwarf into the water showed the children were brave because they stood up to people older and stronger than themselves.. It also showed they operated as a team. Quite often sarcasm was used as humour. Irony was also a technique used to show humour.
The movie is two and a half hours - thats longer than the first one...I think. This movie is a must see and if YOU don't...you will regret it.
